This is hard for you to do.
You rolled your eyes when you read the title.
You said “I do love myself”.
Reality is, you probably do love you, but I am willing to bet you have pieces of you that you don’t like... flabby stomach, chronic illness, short hair, acne… the list goes on. Let’s admit…. WHY WOULD WE WANT TO LOVE THOSE PARTS?!
Short answer, is because it’s who we are, in this moment. We cannot worry about what we want to be, or who we were…. All we can focus on is who we are right now. if you wake up everyday looking at your imperfections and hating yourself…. What if you never get to the actual size you want to be… are you just going to hate yourself forever? Now, because I know how yall like to tussle- men and women- I am not saying just live in your imperfections or not doing anything about them. I am saying, love yourself, despite the issue. Personal story- I love my skin. I have never had acne. I have never had blemishes…. until this year… idk what has happened, but my once flawless skin is looking reallllllllllllllllllllllllll not flawless. Now, I was upset, ashamed, wanted to crawl under a rock and HIDE, and just never come out. That’s ok for a few days, but there was a part of me that said girlllll if you don’t get up! Your skin is not going to magically change by hiding. You have work to do and goals to achieve. Stop hiding and start doing something about it. Is my skin healed yet, nope. Am I still not happy with it… yes. Do I love myself despite my skin right now and the extra weight I’ve put on… I’m learning to.
Oh you thought because I was telling you this I had achieved it already?! Heck naw! This is an ongoing life process that we have to train our mind to accomplish. This is what I like to call a life principle. This is a principle we will have to carry from one situation to the next. It’s not just a one time lesson and it’s applied forever. As we continue in this life, there will always be things to not like about ourself, but if we remember to continue loving ourselves, despite the flaws… that’s how we begin to really win.
I love you <insert name>. Despite the flaws, I love you <insert name>.
We will get through this.
It may not be what we want right now, but we are progressing.
I am doing my best everyday.
Change is coming for me. Keep going.
You will win. I believe in you.
